The Drover- The name Drover House
comes from a hotel I read about that was
located in Miles City, Montana in the late
1800's. At the time it was the end of the
Old Western Trail, the longest of the cattle
trails out of Texas. The Drovers were the
trail drivers. Over the years the term
Cowboy has been used to describe many
origin of the Cowboy. The Drovers were
the men who gathered and pushed the huge
The House- The original Drover House no longer exists. I don't know anything
about it. I only know that it was there and I can only imagine what it was like inside.
That is the look I am inspired by, creating decor that could have been seen in a
cowtown hotel or saloon, or a ranch house or bunkhouse, or in a cattle baron's
mansion. Items that would look at home in any of those places
A feeling of nostaligia for a time we wish we could have seen. To look
at a pair of horns on the wall and think about what that animal must
have looked like and what it would have looked like to see 3,000 head
strung out across the prairie. And what it must have been like to step
into that cowtown hotel at the end of the trail.
herds of longhorn cattle north out of Texas. Men who hadn't slept in a bed in six
months stayed at the Drover House at the end of the trail. The Drover was the original
Cowboy.
The Drover House- I started The Drover House to build home
furnishings that represent the original Cowboy and the times he lived
in. The best explanation of what The Drover House is about is given
by one of those original Cowboys. After the cattle trails had closed
and the Drovers were getting older the Old Time Trail Drivers
Association was formed. At their conventions these men would
reminise about the most unforgettable experiences of their lives, their trips up the trail. After some of the old The
Trail Drivers of Texas.
One the Drovers was J. B. Pumphrey and at the end of his description of his days on the
trail he states:
"In conclusion, I wish to say any movement that will preserve the memories of the old trail days is valuable, for
in a few years most of those who rode the trail will have crossed the great divide. All honor to the Old Timers
who have gone before, and good luck to all of you who are left."
That is what The Drover House is all about.
