An amazing pair of longhorns. The horn on the left has a typical longhorn shape while the horn on the right has grown down and started to curve back toward the animal. It is not completely uncommon for longhorns to have a dropped horn, it happens occasionally. What is uncommon is to have one of this size. The horns measure 64 inches from the widest points, with the horn on the right measuring 34 inches from the tip to the base. The total height from the tallest point to the lowest is 19 inches. Horns have spotted brown tips. Tips of the horns have been polished as I worked down the horn I polished them less and less, leaving the bases rough and natural. The mount is hand carved from a walnut log. The plaque is a beautifully grained cherry. Click on images to enlarge.

"A pair of horns was a symbol of the whole cow country, and a sign that it never wearied of erecting." -J. Frank Dobie The Longhorns
